A member of NDC communication team in the Upper East Region Salifu Jonathan Abdallah has accused the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) of not recognizing and including well-meaning event organizers, business men and women in the region during the recent farmers’ day celebration which took place in the Upper East Region.

This year’s National Farmers’ Day celebration, the 31st in series, was held on 4th of December 2015 in Bolgatanga, on the theme, “Transform Ghana:  Invest in Agriculture’’.

Though, it was a successful national event, some well-meaning personalities in the region have criticized MOFA for what they describe as no recognition for event organizers, business men and women in region. Speaking on A1 radio’s DayBreak Upper East (DBUE), Abdallah Jonathan Salifu, pointed out that, he sees no reason why, everything that was used at the just ended farmer’s day, had to be transported down from Accra, while the people of the region were left out in the arrangements and organization.

According to Mr. Abdallah, it was disappointing that hundreds of citizens in the region who deal in chair and canopy renting were left out as well as those in bottle and sachet water business.

Mr. Abdallah also believes that the reason why farmers’ day is rotated on regional basis yearly is to better the life of citizens in the respective host regions economically. As a result, he says he does not understand why the Ministry they ignored the local event organizers who have better records in organizing such events in the region.

Mr. Abdallah therefore stressed that such act by the Ministry is condemnable and must be corrected since decentralization is encouraged by the government.
