Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, a member of the NDC’s Communication team and Regional Communication Director hopeful has shared in the worry of the Ghana Highways Authority, Urban Roads Department and Feeder Roads Department. Mr. Salifu explained that because these institutions have been starved of the necessary funds and as such, are not in the position to complete road projects dotted across the country.

Mr. Abdallah was speaking about the government’s Year of Roads which has run into the third year. He spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show recently.

“Doing a road project is a problem these days and nobody can run away from that. Highways, Urban Roads, Feeder Roads; they are gnashing. There is nothing in their kitty. I remember when the road tolls were being cancelled. The roads minister told us it was giving us Ghc80m a year. Ghc80m is so much money for a country like us.”

Mr. Abdallah Salifu explained that he was still baffled by the Minister’s insistence on the suspension of the collection of road tolls. The money that would have accrued from the road tolls, according the NDC communicator would have helped finish minor road projects.

“Government thought they [the road tolls] weren’t enough and interestingly, all these things that have been taken away are part of why the road sector is handicapped with funds these days.

Meanwhile, Andrew Atariwini, a member of the NPP’s Regional Communication Team said the government should not be blamed for the delay in road projects in the Upper East Region.
