The infectious Disease Centre project in Zebila, the capital of the Bawku West District in the Upper East Region is progressing steadily.

The project was part of the government’s response to COVID-19 in Ghana. When completed, it is expected to improve diagnosis and research in infectious disease in the region and northern Ghana.

It is the first of its kind in the Upper East Region. It would have an administration block, a main treatment block, a media block and accommodation.

This came to light when the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, took his turn at the Ministry of Information’s State of the Region Report series at the Press Centre in Accra, the national capital.

Mr. Yakubu also touched on the expansion and equipping of the Upper East Regional Hospital adding that, “in fact, you can take a medical holiday and come to the Upper East Region and treat yourself.”

Additionally all 8 projects under the government’s Agenda 111 are ongoing.

The Regional Minister said as part of the government’s efforts to improve access to primary health care, “a good number of CHPS Compounds are being constructed in all 15 districts of the region. Some of which were initiated upon our assumption of government, while others were inherited, completed and put to use.”
