Residents, visitors, and opinion leaders of the Gaare community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region have expressed with joy over the successful enskinment of Naab Mwarebilsong-Naneeteg, as divisional chief of the area.
Naab Mwarebilsong-Naneeteg was enskinned on the 19th of November 2022 by the Paramount Chief of the Tongo Traditional Area, Tongo-Raana Kolbilsong Namalteng after successfully being accepted by the gods of the land.
Naab Mwarebilsong-Naneeteg who is a teacher by profession however courts high expectations from residents as some are of the view that issues of teenage pregnancies and school dropouts among youth will be tackled.
According to residents, “if you look around, some of our children don’t like going to school, so, as we have him as our father (Chief) who understands the importance of education, we are happy. He will encourage our children to take education seriously.”
“Here is a mining community and the children don’t like attending school and some too, if they finished SHS they don’t always want to continue, but now, I have a strong conviction that our chief will not allow them to be thinking that way. So, we are all happy”, another resident indicated.
Gaare community has been noted by some NGOs in the region as being one of the most deprived communities in the area.
Hence the expectations from some of them are for a strong collaboration to address such challenges especially teenage pregnancies and inadequate potable water.
