Popular Kologo musician Jacob Akundoo Atule from the Bongo District in the Upper East Region has called on politicians, public office holders, and development partners to provide sustained support for local musicians, saying artists play a key role in promoting peace, unity, and development.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Buuri Malema Sanga programme, Mr. Atule expressed concern over what he described as the limited support for musicians despite their contributions during political campaigns and national events.

According to him, many local artists dedicate their time and resources to composing and performing songs that promote peace, unity, and social cohesion. He noted that during election periods, musicians actively support campaigns and use their platforms to encourage peaceful participation in democratic processes.

“We use our music to preach peace, unity, and development. During elections, we perform for politicians and support their campaigns, yet many local musicians receive little or no support after the elections,” he said.

Mr. Atule said the creative arts industry has the potential to generate employment and contribute to economic growth if properly supported. He called on government institutions, corporate bodies, and development partners to invest in local talent and help musicians build sustainable careers.

He further appealed for the creation of funding opportunities and initiatives to support recording projects, cultural festivals, and talent development programmes across the Upper East Region.

Mr. Atule stressed that support for musicians should not be limited to election periods but must be continuous in order to strengthen cultural heritage and the creative economy.

He also encouraged fellow musicians to continue using their platforms to promote positive messages that foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and community development.

His comments have reignited discussions about the welfare of local artists and the need for greater recognition of the role of music in promoting social harmony and development in Ghana.
