Abigail Atanga wins Overall Bolga Municipal Best Farmer

Abigail Atanga, a farmer from Yikene was adjudged the Overall Best Farmer for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly. She received a tricycle, cutlass, a pair of wellington boots, GTP cloth, herbicides, a bag of fertiliser, a nose mask and a certificate. 

Rockson Abagna from Dorongo was adjudged the 1st Runner Up Municipal Best Farmer. He was awarded a motorbike, cutlass, a pair of wellington boots, GTP cloth, herbicides, a bag of fertiliser, a box of nose masks and a certificate. 

Hannah Adongo was the Best Female Farmer while Apeele Atiah from Yebongo was adjudged the Municipal Best Crops Farmer. Andrews Agamolga was the Best Municipal Livestock Farmer. Roland Akurigu from Kulbia was adjudged the Best Physically Challenged Farmer while Anthony Aniah was awarded the Best Dry Season Farmer award. A total of 11 categories of farmers were awarded. 

The ceremony took place at Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital. 

The 38th National Farmers’ Day Celebration was hinged on the agenda, “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition.”

Rex Asanga, the MCE for Bolgatanga said the contribution of the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs programme has been immensely successful adding that “it had come to symbolise the face of agricultural development in Ghana. I am happy to acknowledge the tremendous impact of the programme in transforming a lot of farmers and their families in the Municipality from peasant agriculturists to self-sufficient agriculturists.”
