A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga has expressed confidence that his party will wrestle political power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.

According to the astute lawyer, the current economic crisis the country is going through is as a result of the poor management of the economy by the current regime, adding that Ghanaians will reject the elephant party in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary polls.

Addressing newsmen on the sidelines of a sod-cutting ceremony at Zanlerigu, Lawyer Apanga said John Mahama will lead the NDC to victory in the elections because the NPP government has failed in propelling the development of the country as well as addressing the current economic crisis.

“My friends, let’s just judge this government by their own words and by their own standards. Look at the level of the economy at this stage as we speak. See where the cedi has reached as compared to the dollar and look at the rate of inflation as we speak today. Fuel that we used to buy much lower, now we are buying a litre of fuel at a very high price. Even look at ordinary food that we buy now, look at the prices of food items, look at what is happening to our schools, as I speak to you now University lecturers are on strike. That clearly tells you the level of poor leadership that this government has provided to the people of Ghana.”

“Clearly, by their own standards, they have failed the country completely  and there is no justification why this government will continue to remain in power after 2024. They will not be voted for and I can tell you the NDC will provide the best leadership for the development of this country and we will propel this country from its current bad state to a better state as we have seen in the past,” he pronounced.

He intimated that the NDC’s achievement in terms of infrastructural development is  incomparable to the governing party, describing the NPP’s performance when it comes as a failure.

The NDC goes to the polls on the 17th of December this year to elect  new executives that will steer the affairs of the party for next four years. One of the portfolios that has attracted public attention is the chairmanship race where Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary,  and incumbent chairman, Samuel Ofoso Ampofo are vying for the chairmanship position.

When asked who his favourite candidate was between the two, Lawyer Apanga who would be contesting the incumbent Member of Parliament for Nabdam,  Dr. Mark Kurt  Nawaane in the party’s primaries said he has no preference between both individuals, stating that any of the duo is capable of leading the NDC to victory in the elections.

He said “I strongly have an interest in the leadership of the NDC and I have an interest in who leads the party because I am a stakeholder of the party and as somebody  who is vying to be a Member of Parliament or a parliamentary candidate, I have a strong interest in it. Both candidates: Asiedu Nketia and  Ampofo are very good materials for the NDC. They are equally good and any of them who wins will provide us the good leadership that we need. It’s not in my place to predict who would be the leader who would win but I can tell you for sure that both of them are very good materials that would help us to move out of opposition and see us into government even into government, into government and government beyond government.
