Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashiru has called on youth and supporters of the New Patriotic Party in and out of the Tempane constituency to be circumspect and decent in the language used in favour or against him as expectation build up ahead of the party’s primaries in Tempane.

According to him, he has observed with great concern that the youth, especially supporters on various social media platforms, are using unhealthy language against himself and the former Parliamentary candidate Lawyer Joseph Kpemka regarding the forthcoming parliamentary primaries in the area.

He said, “I want to state unequivocally that I’m a true democrat and as such, I welcome healthy competition rather than negative propaganda, personal attacks, and name-calling with the aim of denigrating my competitors, especially in internal elections of this nature which requires decorum and maturity.”

The CEO who made a statement copied to A1radioonline.com added that he worked closely with Lawyer Joseph Kpemka during 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 general elections and hence will wish to continue with such a “brotherly” relationship.

“We’ve no option than to continue this long-standing relationship before, during, and after the parliamentary primaries regardless of the outcome.”

Adding that, “I’d like to issue a cease-fire order to all parties, especially those who wish me well, requesting that they refrain from such verbal aggressions in the media space. I will disassociate myself from anyone who continues to support me while refusing to comply with this directive.”

Touching on the buildup to 2024 and the need for unity, he said “I am fully cognizant of the need for all stakeholders in the Tempane constituency to see unity as the catalyst that will embolden us to ensure victory in the 2024 general elections. The victory we cherish so much cannot be achieved by verbal abuses, character assassinations, and derogatory labels.

Let’s continue espousing the achievements or success stories of any of the candidates devoid of insults and verbal assaults. If precautions are not taken, there is a possibility that you will end up discrediting both of us, which will make it difficult for either one of us to be credible in the eyes of the larger populace in the constituency.”

“[We] are obligated to place the interest of the party in the constituency ahead of the interests of any individual by ensuring that neither our actions nor our inactions impede the progress we have made toward recapturing the seat from the NDC.”
