The Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, along with its private partners will soon offer boat excursions and other recreational alternatives besides dining establishments and beer parlours to revellers.

The Assembly is thinking about collaborating with a private investor to transform the Maclean Dam at Soe, a Bolgatanga suburb, into a recreation area.

This would mean that the current agricultural activities that take place around the dam, would be catered for by the Assembly elsewhere.

Rex Asanga, the MCE for Bolgatanga said this when he spoke to Mark Smith and Gerard Asagi on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

“You know the Soe dam is irrigating the area across the road but we have a plan in future that we should turn the Soe dam into a kind of tourist centre. Yes, the Maclean Dam, we are looking for an investor to come and take it.”

“You take it, you redesign it, deepen it a bit and make it [available for] boat rides. On the flanks, allow people to come and set up businesses and whatnots, have some swimming pools. We do not have a centre where people can do these.”

“Because of this, we want to provide a mechanised borehole downstream so that they [the dry season farmers] do not have to depend on water from the dam,” he said.
