The Member of Parliament for Zebila Constituency of the Upper East Region, Cletus Avoka has bowed out of politics.

The move, according to the seasoned politician, was to give space for young people in the area to take up the mantle of leadership and get the opportunity to explore and implement fresh ideas.

The legislator who revealed this to our reporter, Moses Apiah, added that his age was also a factor as at that age he will not allow “…uncultured youth who may not know how to regulate their tongues” to insult him all in the name of politics.

He said, “my son, just look at my age, you want me to be running around with these boys who sometimes do not know how to talk but only insults. No, I won’t. I think I have done my best for NDC and my constituency. The young brains should take over. I wish them well.”

He was once Minister of the Interior during John Evans Atta Mills’ administration.

His first ministerial position was as Minister for Lands and Forestry in the government of Jerry Rawlings from 1993 to 1999.

Meanwhile, this website is learning that there may be four persons who have interest in leading the party to the polls at the constituency level.
