The 2022/2023 Kalbeo Inter-Clans Football Tournament came to an end on Wednesday 11th January, 2023. Avolibiisi were crowned champions.
The fixture between last year’s winners Zinga and Avolibiisi ended goalless in regulation time. In the penalty shootout, Avolibiisi converted all their five penalty kicks whilst Zinga after taking four penalty kicks scored three and missed one. Avolibiisi won 5-3 on penalties and took the ultimate prize.
The third place play off between Tansuah and Alokobiisi could not be played as scheduled because Alokobiisi failed to show up.
Speaking to the gathering after the final match Former Assemblyman for Kalbeo, Godwin Akapire who spoke on behalf of the Chief of Kalbeo, Naba Ayuusi-Yine Apasipanga II and his elders applauded the players for lifting the image of the community high in just ended Frafra Unity Inter-Community Football Gala.
He challenged the community saying aside football, the youth should come together to try to do something for the community. He spoke about the youth seeking other playing fields outside of the existing one.
The chief and elders supported the gala with 3 footballs. The first and second placed teams received a ball each while a third ball was to be shared by the community as per the original idea of the organisers.
Avolibiisi walked home with a trophy, a football and two packs of soft drinks. Zinga, the second placed team received a football and two packs of soft drinks whilst the third placed clan Tasuah received one(1) pack of soft drinks.
Akabiisi won the maiden tournament, Zinga won the second edition and now Avolibiisi are champions of the third edition.
In all eight(8) clans took part in the games. They are; Tasuah, Akabiisi, Awure, Avolibiisi, Alokobiisi, Saabaye, Zinga and Kundobaye.
