After several deliberations with the school management and other officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES),  the students who were seen in a viral video insulting the President have been asked to hand over school properties in their possession to the headmistress and go home.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Director General of GES Dr. Eric Nkansah.

The letter added that the decision was based on their “misconduct by making derogatory comments in a video that went viral, a conduct considered very undesirable and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana.”

It could be recalled that in 2022 a viral video was circulating on social media with some second-year female students of the Chiana SHS in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region insulting President Akufo-Addo over their difficulties in school.

Their act later received severe condemnation where Management of the GES at the national level, in a statement, apologised to the President on behalf of the students, school, and members of the public.

The dismissal letter dated 29th November 2022 with GES address on it was given to the parents of the students on 11th January 2023.

Below is a portion of the letter addressed to one of the student’s parents.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has given approval for the dismissal of Miss. Hamidu Huzaimah Daabu with immediate effect to serve as a deterrent to other students.”

“This is in view of her involvement in misconducting herself by making derogatory comments in a video that went viral, a conduct considered very undesirable and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana.”

“Your ward is therefore requested to properly hand over any school property in her possession to the headmistress of the school before leaving. It is expected that your ward will use this as a major turning point in her life to bring the desired change in her behaviour and attitude towards life. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

Thank You

Dr. Eric Nkansah

  1. Director General
