Market women, drivers, and some traders at the Bazua Market in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region have expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament of the area, Abdulai Abanga for supporting them.

The legislator on January 9th, 2023 supported the traders with 100 large umbrellas to protect them against the scorching sun.

Yaa Martin, a market woman said the initiative of the MP came at the right time.

She said, “just look at the way the sun is, but as traders, we usually stand in it. What can we do? I’m grateful to the MP and I pray that God protects him. Now, I can use my money to expand my business instead of buying an umbrella again.”

Apoasan Agumah also said, “if we have children (MP) like that, we will be forever grateful. I never thought he would come to our aid. Just look at this scorching sun, yet we have to be in it to provide food for the little ones in the house. So, we are thankful for his support.”

“There is nothing to say other than to ask Allah to protect him and provide all his needs. Just look at how he thought of us. We will continue to remember him in our prayers because his support has saved me some money. The umbrella has been on my books and I always ask myself when will I get money to buy it and just out of nowhere, he has come to support me and my colleagues. We are grateful,” Aisha Bukari said.

Mr. Abanga, the MP, said that 40 of the umbrellas will be given to the Bazua market traders while the remaining 60 umbrellas would be distributed to other market women and traders across the constituency.

He hinted that plans were far advanced to reorganise the market with ultramodern storage facilities and it will become the biggest market in the Bawku zone.
