The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region is poised to win the Navrongo Central constituency seat in honour of the late MP, Joseph Kofi Adda. The Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Lawyer Anthony Namoo described the late Kofi Adda as the most successful politician of the NPP in the region.
“As far as our party is concerned, he was the most successful politician of our party in this region because he has been in parliament for 14 years. We have never had anybody making even half of the years that he made”
The late MP died on October 14, 2021, and was laid to rest on 12th February 2021 at Pungu, his hometown in the Navrongo Municipality of the Upper East Region. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony, church service, and a public lecture were held on Sunday, 12th February to remember the burial day of the late Adda.
On behalf of the NPP in the Upper East Region, Lawyer Namoo said the only reward the party can do to keep the legacy of the late legislator is to take back the swing seat from the NDC.
“Today’s gathering is a testimony of the fact that Kofi will still live with us. And we will also have to work so hard and close our ranks as a party and that was what Kofi stood for. Unfortunately, father time did not allow him to do that. And those of us who are alive, let’s not harden our hearts, let’s soften our hearts so that together we will be able to close our ranks so that come December 7th, 2024, Navrongo’s seat will be won, not only in his honour but to the honor and glory of God”, he stated.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu said the leadership of the party in the region is working on uniting the party members towards recapturing power.
“There were a lot of problems after the primaries and a lot of divisions in the party. What we are trying to do is to bring the party back so that all of us will speak the same language. That was his wish before he died. So that we can all come together and fight for the seat. And Insha Allah, we will get the seat back”
The NPP Women Organizer, Ophelia Philomena Aovare said all issues that affected the fortunes of the party in the last election are being ironed out towards victory.
According to her, she has left go the factions that were fighting her and rather focus on “recapturing the seat come to 2024”
The first anniversary to celebrate the burial day of the late Joseph Kofi Adda was organised by a group known as Friends of Kofi Adda and led by Daniel Kansake, the Navrongo Central Communication Officer of the NPP.
The late Joseph Kofi Adda until his demise was the Minister of Aviation. In 2017, Mr. Adda was appointed Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources. Other political positions he occupied included Minister for Labour, Manpower, and Development under President Kufuor in 2005. Under his tenure witnessed the establishment of the National Youth Employment Agency now Youth Employment Agency. On 28 April 2006, he was appointed the Minister of Energy.
