Some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Thursday 9th March 2023 handed over a renovated washroom to staff and students of the Bolgatanga Senior High School.

The leader of the group who doubles as a Development Officer with Social Welfare and Community development at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, Abulbire Sylvia Akolgoma, speaking with A1 Radio said the project forms part of their curricula to identify developmental gaps in society and solve them.

According to Madam Akolgoma, they identified 3 developmental gaps which included the construction of a CHPS compound for a community, construction of an incinerator and renovation of a washroom for the school.

She said the CHPS compound has already been constructed and handed over with plans underway for the construction of the incinerator for the identified school. The decision to renovate the washroom was to help eliminate the health risk posed by the bad nature of the facility.

The group, according to Abulbire Sylvia Akolgoma, consist of Dakurah Emmanuel (Planning Officer at the Talensi District), Anaam Talata Mabel (Development Officer with Social Welfare and Community Development, Talensi District), Issahaku Abubakari (Project Office, Plan International Ghana).

The project, she said, was in collaboration with the school. The group provided the finance whilst the school supported with other materials like sand, water and labour.

The Headmaster of the school Afelibeik Ababu was excited and satisfied at the handing over of the project. He said the project will give the school a face lift and go a long way to benefit the students of the school. He also appealed for the students to help renovate an additional washroom in the school and called on others including past students of the school to emulate this kind gesture.
