The board for the Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund has been outdoored in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region. The board of the scholarship scheme would be expected to disburse funds accrued into the fund for students who qualify for the scholarship.

“What happened earlier was the inauguration of the board of the scholarship fund. The name of the scholarship fund is the Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund. Butt-Tis in Kusaal means planting for the future. It came about because we had discovered that this Free Senior School Policy (SHS) is a very good policy. It has been able to help expand education to those who otherwise would not have been able to access senior high education. But many of these people now have a bigger challenge: being able to access tertiary education.”

Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, the brains behind the fund, said this when he spoke to Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show today, March 13, 2023.

The board, he said, is there to ensure that only deserving students are supported. They would be supported without regard to their religious or political affiliation.

“The board was inaugurated on March 4. This is a board made up of educationists, development practitioners, people who understand development, and people who rise above partisanship and religion and place value to bear in the development of the project,” he said.

Dr. Krugu explained that he led the way by committing Ghc100,000 to the fund.

“Again, to be able to ask people to contribute money to something like a scholarship fund, my wife and I decided to sacrifice and take the step forward to contribute [to the fund] ourselves. That would give us the moral ground to stand on to also ask other people to support. That is what happened that we committed Ghc100,000 into the fund.”
