A history and political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Dr. Samuel Adu Gyamfi has charged Ghanaian youth to take responsibility of the development and future of the country through the powers that be on the bases of law.

The history mogul noted that even though Ghana has made thrives in other areas of development since independence, there is so much more left to be achieved as a country and that can only be made possible through a consolidated effort from all persons and most importantly young and energetic minds who can take over and begin to do their own stuff that would develop Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with Azongo Albert on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Friday, the history lecturer said Ghana’s independence is enviable and provided an opportunity for a rebuilding of a country filled with enormous potential.

According to him, though the independence of Ghana covered all facets of the country’s affairs, the country cannot boast of a total economic emancipation and this he blamed on leadership and governing affairs of the country tracing back into the years. He asserted that Ghana is still suffering some form of neo-colonialism through economic tendencies.

Dr. Adu Gyamfi said the country must not sit and expect a miracle to change or enhance the fortunes of the country but it would take a pro-active and concerted effort from strong spirited and young dynamic minds in the likeness of Nkrumah to stand out and to set the examples to propel the development of the country.

“The individual citizens that are in this country should continue to do their best to contribute. Let’s have young and dynamic minds in the likeness of Nkrumah or even better than them who we find today in our country to stand out and to also set the examples and to challenge the powers that be on the basis of law. As we psyche for our country using the same law that we think has not been working for us, I think we can build a viable society. Gradually we would get there because roam was not built in a day.”

Dr. Adu Gyamfi lauded the existence of Think Tanks and the vociferous media that are all playing significant roles in the transformation and driving the development agenda of the country. He also cautioned against an unrealistic optimism and the expectation of a miracle that would see the turnaround of Ghana.

He added “We should not think of a certain magic that will happen for us. It’s going to be gradual but I know we will get there and that’s what we should be looking at. A sense of optimism but the members of the society should take over and begin to do their own stuff that is good to build this country.”

He also challenged graduates not to solely look up to government for employment but look beyond and start their own businesses no matter how meager it may be and be proud of Ghana as their own country.
