The Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency in the Upper East Region, Dr. Clement Apaak, has supported six different self-help projects in six communities in the area to improve and encourage communities’ felt needs.
According to the MP, the initiative aims not only to encourage the community’s members to develop but also to improve their living conditions.
The projects are a 2-unit KG classroom block, a children’s weighing centre, a kitchen for caterers, a delivery room for a CHPS compound, and the purchase of water pumps for irrigation. Dr. Apaak hoped that once these projects were completed, they would help improve their lives in their respective communities.
The legislator noted that such projects were personally funded from his own pocket and with communal support from community members.
“Of course, their involvement with what they can do has and will continue to build us all up. Because of the amount of money or resources that could have been used to pay people to come and do certain things, such resources have now been used to further improve the projects we are undertaking in these communities. Aside from that, the idea also helps in bringing unity and ownership among them, as with their involvement, maintenance culture will be key.”
Members of some of the beneficiary communities, when asked about the initiative, expressed excitement, adding that such engagement has helped some of them improve their interpersonal communication.
The beneficiary communities are Teperinsa, Tuedema, Suik, Musidema, Bachonsa, and Kasiesa.
