Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has entreated the electorates of Upper East to consider the calibre of persons they choose to represent them in parliament.
Mr. Yakubu made these remarks when he was addressing participants of a health Walk organised by the Parliament of Ghana in collaboration with the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council to mark 30 years of Parliamentary democracy.
Speaking on the theme, 30 years of uninterrupted Parliamentary democracy, he said parliament is a noble institution clothed with the power to make laws for the country.
He said, “Distinguished participants, let me state that parliament is a noble institution that is clothed with the authority to make laws for the country. Consequently, as citizens, we need to consider the calibre of persons we elect to represent us in parliament as our legislators. We need to vote for these people based on their integrity and love for the region and country. At the end of the day, we want people who can represent the hopes and aspirations of the citizenry.”
The parliament of the Republic of Ghana, in collaboration with the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, held a health Walk and other fun games to mark 30 years of Parliamentary democracy.
This year 2023, marks thirty (30) years since the inception of the Fourth Republican Parliament of Ghana, after eleven (11) years of military rule and the promulgation of the 1992 Constitution that was approved by the Ghanaian citizenry in a referendum.
The parliament of Ghana has embarked on a series of activities to celebrate this milestone of 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy.
In the Upper East Region, some fun games and a health Walk were organised as part of the activities to sensitise citizens about democracy and the need for participation in the governance of the country.
