The Director-General of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof. Mohammed Salifu has indicated that the commission through GetFund has secured financial clearance to construct a 400-bed capacity hostel facility for the students of CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in Navrongo.

The initiative according to the Director General was not only aimed to improve quality education but to address some of the infrastructure challenges confronting the university over the years.

Prof. Mohammed Salifu made this known over the weekend at the 2nd Congregation ceremony of the 2nd cohort of graduating students held at the University’s Auditorium at CKT UTAS.

The ceremony brought together participants from various fields of study including some traditional leaders and security agencies. A total of three hundred and fifty-one (351) students successfully graduated. Out of which hundred and thirty-four (134) were graduate students and two hundred and seventeen (217) were undergraduate students.

Stressing the need for GTEC to improve the infrastructure challenges of the university, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Eric Magnus Wilmot, Vice-Chancellor added that office spaces for staff were but a few of the additional challenges facing the university thereby making coordination at work in most cases difficult.

He said, “The University is challenged with office space for staff which makes coordination at work in most cases difficult. There are also inadequate lecture halls for efficient and conducive teaching and learning atmosphere in the university.”

He thanked GTEC and GETFund for the various roles played in facilitating the completion of a New Library block and some computer laboratories.
