Officials from the National Security Ministry in charge of the government’s “See Something Say Something” campaign are embarking on a sensitization and education tour in the Upper East Region.

Last year, the  Ministry of National Security  launched a citizens’ awareness campaign aimed at protecting the country against terrorist attacks, dubbed: “See something, say something”.

The campaign is also to encourage the public to be vigilant of the activities of suspicious characters and report such activities and characters to the security agencies immediately.

At an engagement with residents, opinion leaders and chiefs at Pasiga Chief palace, leader of the team, Madam Akosua Ntim-Sekyere, stated the need for citizens to collectively support the campaign in preserving the security of the country with necessary information as the security personnel cannot be everywhere.

Madam Ntim-Sekyere also called on the residents to be vigilant at all times and promptly report any suspicious or unusual activities in their communities to the security for action to be taken.

“The whole idea is to sensitise the citizens to be security conscious, to be vigilant at all times and be able to report suspicious activities that could potentially compromise national security. So the whole idea is to make them security conscious, personal security conscious, community and by extension national security conscious. So after the launch last year, we try as much as possible to engage citizens across the respective regions. We have been to the Ashanti Region. We have been to the Eastern Region. We have been to the Volta Region. The five regions in the north are next and we hope to cover the five Regions and continue to the other regions.”

She also stated that the team is expected to cover all the 16 regions across the country with the sensitization exercise by early next year, which they believe will enable citizens to help the government fight national security issues.

The team on their first day in the Upper East Region visited the Chiefs and people of Zebilla in the Bawku west district, Chiefs and people of Pasiga in the Pusiga district as well as the Chiefs and the people of Kulungugu. And they are expected to continue to other communities, especially the  border communities in the region.

Meanwhile both the chiefs and the people of these areas are fully enthused about the steps taken by the national security ministry to embark on such an important educational exercise on the subject matter. According to the residents who spoke to the media, after they received the education about ‘See Something Say Something’ it will go a long way to help the fight against terrorist attacks in the country.
