The New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region says it is saddened by the death of the party’s former national chairman Jake Otanka Obetstebi Lamptey.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey died early Sunday in the United Kingdom after a short illness at the age of 70. A former aide to late former chairman Bryan Acheampong first broke the news in a Facebook post Sunday morning when he wrote “Till we meet again Sir!! You were a very good man. Ghana has lost one fine statesman…! RIP.”

The party in a statement confirmed the death and requested that “all party flags- national, regional, constituency and polling stations offices- fly at half-mast.”

Upper East Regional Communications Director of the party Edmond Awuni told a1radioonline.com the party in the region is still in shock and saddened by the death of Jake.

“We are indeed saddened by this happening and it is a great lost to us.”

He however added that the hierarchy of the party in the region is yet to meet following the sad event and would communicate appropriately to the region in due course.

Checks by a1radioonline.com at the various youth parliaments in the Bolgatanga municipality revealed a somber mood.

Checks at the time of filing this report however revealed that the party’s flag half-mast fly request by the party is yet to be complied with.
