A Social Activist in the Upper East Region, Stanley Abopam, is poised to lead a demonstration over the deplorable nature of the Sirigu-Zorkor Road in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.

The Social activist said his action has become necessary following the frequent occurrence of accidents on the road, particularly along the Sirigu-Zorkor broken Bridge.

The recent, case as reported, was two young men on a motorbike who lost balance and veered off from the narrow space of the road into the broken bridge and are currently receiving treatment at the emergency ward of the Regional Hospital.

Mr. Abopam said this when he was speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show with Mark Smith.

He quizzed, that “why should ordinary Ghanaians lose their lives just by accessing facilities on the other side of the communities.”

According to him “Sirigu is one vibrant community in that enclave with the biggest market in the Kassena Nankana West District but for the presence of the border at Paga, Sirigu  would  have been ideally carved  as the District  or Municipal capital for that area.”

“When you even take off the socio-economic importance of Sirigu, there is one important factor people don’t know about Sirigu, Sirigu is a magnetising sector for transnational royal activities and when I say magnetising activities what I mean is that the Sirigu Paramountcy is one of the most important paramountcy in both Ghana and Burkina Faso”

“so much such that in terms of royal containers,  Sirigu plays a very powerful role in the royalty of Navrongo, Mirigu,Naaga,Bolga-Sherigu and Zeko, a frafra community in Burkina Faso. that is how traditional and how cultural influence Sirigu is, to the extent that, that was the reason Sirigu was able to intervene in the Doba and Kandega conflict,” he added

The Activist bemoaned that several calls on authorities to fix the road proved futile and despite the fact that he was not from Sirigu, he was willing to not only participate in the demonstration but to fund the demonstration if the need be, emphasising  that he was unsure of the next victim.

In an interview on the Day Break Upper East Show, James Nsoh, the Assemblyman for the area said he was yet to reach the District Chief Executive of the area for a possible intervention.
