Northern sector manager of Consolidated Bank Ghana donates sports equipment to Tongo Girls Model School

The Northern Sector Manager of Consolidated Bank Ghana, Lucas Yelabeyeni Yaro Yirezema, has made a donation to the Tongo Girls Model School at Wakii, in the Talensi District. The donation aims at encouraging the playing of volleyball as an alternative sport. The items are a volleyball net, two volleyballs, and a set of jerseys for the school.

Lucas Yirezema, who has a deep passion for volleyball and has been playing the game since his youth as a student in Talensi, expressed his personal commitment to giving back to his community. He noted, “Today I made a donation to the Tongo Girls Model school at Wakii. The donations included a volleyball Net, Two volleyballs, and a set of jerseys.” Yirezema further explained that he recognized the limitations faced by aspiring athletes due to the lack of facilities, including volleyballs, nets, jerseys, and coaching.

After visiting the Girls Model School a few months ago, Yirezema noticed that the volleyball court had been unused for some time. Concerned about the situation, he approached the school’s Sports Master, Emmanuel Anafo, who shared the challenges they were facing. 

“Today is a great day for me to give back to my community in the form of donations to develop the capacity and competence of the youth in our community,” said Yirezema.

He emphasised the importance of sports in promoting physical and mental health while empowering children to recognize and nurture their potential in their respective areas of interest.

Mr. Yirezema expressed his personal connection to the cause, stating, “As a son of Talensi, this is my personal contribution towards helping to unlock and develop sports talents in our land. Talensi is blessed with great talents, and I’m very hopeful that my small contribution will go a long way to impact and inspire the girls in the school and the entire community as a whole.”

The donation made by Luca Yelabeyeni Yaro Yirezema is expected to reignite interest in volleyball at the Tongo Girls Model School, providing the necessary resources for the students to engage in the sport actively. It serves as a testament to the commitment of individuals like Yirezema to the development and well-being of their communities.
