As part of his commitment to support the work of the media in the Upper East region, Mathew Silas Amoah, through his foundation, the Silas Amoah Foundation has pledged to contribute Ghc 10,000 towards the organisation of the Upper East Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards.

The GJA awards scheme aims at recognizing and celebrating outstanding journalists in the region for their professionalism and contributions to society. By making this donation, the founder of the foundation, Amoah Silas Mathew wants to show his appreciation for the media’s role in promoting development and democracy in the region.

Mr. Amoah aspires to become the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 general elections in the Bolgatanga East constituency of the Upper East region. Mr. Amoah said he believes that the media play a crucial role in society by providing information and holding leaders accountable.

“Mathew Silas Amoah is a young man who has this region at heart especially the media because you are the makers of modern minds. The media informs, educates, and entertains so a program like this is so dear to his heart”

The Communications Officer of NPP for Bolgatanga East constituency, Ayimbila Atere who spoke on behalf of the philanthropist, said Mr. Amoah recognizes the challenges that journalists face, including financial constraints and inadequate resources, and wants to support them in their efforts.

“The young man is a devoted Christian who respects people irrespective of their affiliation, beliefs, profession, or whatsoever. We have people who have more resources than Mathew, but he is doing what he does because he knows where he is coming from. That is why he wants to also support his people. So, he is here for Bolga East and the Upper East as a whole,” he added.

He indicated that the contribution by the foundation will not only assist in the success of the GJA awards but also encourage other individuals and organisations to support the media in the region. He believes that by coming together and supporting the media, the Upper East region can have a more vibrant and effective journalism industry.

The Amoah Foundation together with its founder in April this year, drilled and handed over 4 boreholes for communities in the Bolgatanga East such as Dubila, Zuarungu-Dabooren, Gambibgo, and Duulugu. The gestures were geared towards providing safe drinking water for the community members.  He also supported the education sector with the provision of furniture and computers for schools, organised extra classes for final-year JHS students, and paid the school fees of some needy students in the Bolga East District.

The NPP Communications Officer for Bolga East, Mr. Atere said the NPP parliamentary candidate hopeful looks forward to the successful organisation of the awards and the recognition of the hard work and dedication of journalists in the Upper East region.

The 2nd Upper East GJA Awards is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2023, under the theme “Safeguarding the peace and security of the Upper East Region: The role of the media”.
