The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority, Williams Zoogah has refused to commission a three-unit classrooms block for teachers and pupils of Tanchingu basic school in the Pusiga District of the Upper East Region over what he described as “shoddy work” executed by the contractor.
Clear cracks on the walls of the newly built structure and the failure of the contractor to complete a KVIP attached structure as part of the contract specification compelled Mr. Zoogah to reject the building.
He said “No, we can’t accept this, look at this wall here, it is a deep crack and needs serious work. The toilet facility is not done, he only laid blocks. He used metal plates for windows and doors and these are not up to standard. He failed to work on the veranda ceiling of the staff common room. All these need to be worked on, and for that matter, we will not commission it. The contractor needs to come back to the site.”
Mr. Zoogah who could not hide his disappointment told our reporter, Moses Apiah, that his outfit will closely monitor the project until the contractor corrects the errors.
“NDA does not go around commissioning projects like that, people need to do the right thing. So, we will keep him on our monitoring list until the right thing is done. We have to take the safety of the children that will be using this structure seriously. No, no, we will not hand it over for use.”
