The Upper East Regional Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, Peter Ayinbisa, has revealed that 35 aspirants, as of yesterday, August 3, 2023, have picked nomination forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in the region.

Three of these aspirants are women, while 32 are men.

He detailed that 7 and 5 persons in the Bawku Central and Navrongo Constituencies have picked forms, while 3 persons in each of the Bolga Central, Chiana Paga, Garu, and Talensi constituencies have picked nomination forms.

Also, 2 persons in each of Nabdam, Tempane, Builsa South, and Zebila Constituencies have picked nomination forms, while 1 person in each of Bongo, Bolga East, and Pusiga Constituencies has picked forms.

He disclosed that no individual had picked up a form at the Builsa North constituency as of yesterday, though the information available indicated that an individual had expressed interest.

Mr. Ayinbisa said there was a likelihood for the candidates in Pusiga and Bolgatanga East to go unopposed considering the information available on the ground.

Mr. Ayinbisa noted that contrary to people’s assertions that many have lost interest in the party, this could not be said to be the case considering the calibre of people competing in the various constituencies across the region.

The party opened nominations on Tuesday, July 11, and is said to close on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Elections are expected to be held from September to December.
