For the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo central to recapture the parliamentary seat which is currently occupied by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Municipal Chief Executive for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal, Joseph Adongo says it requires somebody who is a unifier.
He says he is the right person who can bring together the various factions within the party and garner support from the general public. Mr. Adongo who says he has traits of a unifier and has exhibited it on countless occasions was worried that the cracks within the elephant party keep deepening because members of the party have personalised issues in the area
“The seat in Navrongo Central is for NPP. The only difference that caused us in the 2020 elections was that we were not able to handle our differences and I think I am in the right position to bring the people together. Whoever is hurt, I am ready to go out to that person because I stand to gain if we win the seat as the MCE during your tenure, you are either the MP or you help in getting the seat. People are looking at individuals and taking decisions and that is affecting the party”
He believes that his experience as the MCE has exposed him to the needs and concerns of the people, and he is committed to addressing these issues if elected the parliamentary candidate of the NPP in the Navrongo central constituency.
As MCE for the municipality, Mr. Adongo said he is confronted with requests for potable water, good roads, electricity, furniture in schools, and farm inputs but he can better address the needs of the constituents if he is elected Member of Parliament for the area.
“The MP is an individual who owns an account and decides what he wants to use to use the money for but whatever comes to the assembly takes care of all the 35 electoral areas. But if I become an MP, I determine where this help goes. So, you sit there as an MCE but you don’t have any account that you can decide that this is what I want to do with it” he clarified.
Touting his achievements as a former Presiding Member of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly, an elected assembly member, a constituency and regional executive, Mr. Adongo believes he is well vest with experience to lead the people of Navrongo as the MP.
The late Joseph Kofi Adda was the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central until he lost the NPP parliamentary primaries to former Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage. But the NPP however, failed to retain the seat in the 2020 general election which was won by the NDC’s Samson Tangombu Chiragia.
The MCE for Kassena-Nankana Municipal, Joseph Adongo said the late MP, Kofi Adda had given him his blessings and promised to help him in his political career.
“I have followed Kofi Adda in government and in opposition throughout. What is there to learn if you have followed somebody for that long time and you can’t learn anything from him? I think that he has nurtured me enough and I think I can step in his shoes if God permits”, he stated.
