Bolgatanga: Man, 32 Jailed For Tampering With VRA Meter

A Bolgatanga circuit court presided over by Justice Essel Walker on Tuesday sentenced 32 year old Anyim Mensah to two years in prison for unlawful entry and stealing of VRA property.

Anyim who has been on the wanted list of the Volta River Authority for over two years for offences including stealing and tampering with meters was apprehended by police on Saturday.

Disclosing his arrest and subsequent jailing to a1radioonline.com, Snr. Technician Engineer at NEDCO Samuel Adjei said on Thursday 24th March, a woman who had purchased a meter from Anyim Mensah came to the office of the VRA to get a card for her meter but was told that the meter belonged to another customer.

Mr. Adjei mentioned that the woman therefore agreed to help apprehend Anyim who had defrauded her. He indicated that a staff of the organization posed as a customer who needed a meter urgently, which Anyim agreed to provide.

He indicated that they agreed to meet at a place close to the Municipal Police station where the Police came in to arrest him.

The Bolgatanga Area Commercial Officer for VRA Kofi Amakye mentioned that he was amazed by the works of Anyim considering the fact that he was able to breach all the security features installed on the new Hexing meters.

He noted Anyim had defrauded a lot of customers and his arrest has brought relief to his outfit and will also serve as a deterrent to others who indulge in such acts.
