The president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Monday, August 28,  2023, launched Phase two of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Programme at the University for Development Studies in Tamale, Northern Regional capital.

The Programme is a five-year master plan for the transformation of the country’s agriculture, with the goal of transforming and modernising the sector through the establishment of a chosen commodity value chain with the active involvement of the private sector.

The second phase of the PFJ, according to the President, is an innovative and all-encompassing strategy that will build on the success of the first PFJ Programme.

He said that the PFJ program’s second phase adopts a comprehensive strategy and focuses a stronger emphasis on value chains by concentrating on bolstering ties between participants along eleven specific agricultural commodities value chains.

The major elements of the phase two of the PFJ Programme, that will highlight the modernisation and transformation of the Country’s agriculture include an input credit system that provides farmers with access to inputs such as seeds, fertilisers and pesticides.

The Programme would as well provide high-quality inputs and other support services for improving productivity and yields, storage infrastructure and logistic hub to improve storage and distribution of produce and reduce postharvest losses.

It will also offer commodity trading to improve farmer access to markets, and guarantee fair prices for their crops and digitised platform for management, monitoring and coordination to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the programme.
