The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, Peter Ayinbisa, has stated that he only defends Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as vice president and not as an aspirant to the NPP flagbearership race.

Speaking to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show, Mr. Ayinbisa said though he supports the vice president’s bid to become the flagbearer of the party, he does so by considering his work as the Director of Communications of the party.

“I have been very careful, and I only come to defend Dr. Bawumia as vice president, not as an aspirant. When you speak against the competence of him as the vice president, I will respond to you in equal measure, and that is what I have always maintained, though it is sometimes difficult for you to distinguish between his role as vice president and that of a candidate. I am able to do that.”

Our party constitution does not bar me as an executive from declaring my support for any candidate, but it’s just good that you don’t involve yourself,” he added.

His comments came on the heels of allegations by the Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, that their party guidelines bar executives from declaring their support for candidates, yet they went ahead to support the Vice President.
