The Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, has stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not a threat to the NDC and in the event that he emerges as the New Patriotic Party’s flag bearer, it only furthers NDC’s goal of winning the 2024 general election.
According to Mr. Abdallah Salifu, the perception that Dr. Bawumia would cause a major upset for the NDC is opinionated and unsubstantial, as the party is poised to win the 2024 general election.
He made this assertion when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show in response to Peter Ayinbisa, the New Patriotic Party`s Regional Communications Director, who said the NDC is worried about Dr. Bawumia becoming the flagbearer.
Mr. Abdallah noted that apart from the NDC having a better chance of winning the 2024 elections, the internal wrangling in the NPP would have a dire effect going forward and would even worsen their chances.
According to him, the plans of Alan Kyerematen are unknown, and in the event that he resigns from the NPP, it would have a negative effect on them, arguing that there are a lot of aggrieved members who would as well leave the party.
But Peter Ayinbisa, the Upper East Regional Communication Director for the NPP, thinks otherwise; he argued that the NPP as a party is bigger than an individual, recollecting that the party went into the 2016 general elections without a party chairperson or secretary yet won the elections with ease.
