The Bongo District Mental Health Coordinator,Prince Kofi Yeboah, has disclosed that data gathered at the district on drugs has indicated that Soe is the hub for the sale of psychoactive drugs in the Bongo District.

Psychoactive drugs are substances such as cannabis, cocaine, heroin, and alcohol, among others, that, when taken in or administered into one`s system, affect mental processes including perception, consciousness, cognition, and emotions.

Mr. Yeboah stated that “Data at our office shows that most of the substance use in the district, including wee, tramadol, and other psychoactive drugs, comes from a particular area in Bongo, and that is Soe.”

“Soe is the economic hub of the Bongo District, and if you recall issues in the past like day robberies that occurred in the area, it tells you that the implication of these drugs goes beyond health because it also has socio-economic impact,” he added.

The mental health coordinator noted that the accessibility of drugs makes it easy for people to abuse them and commit egregious acts against innocent people.

He revealed this when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show regarding Suicide and Mental Health .

Mr. Yeboah noted that if nothing is done to curtail the phenomenon to prevent its health impact and economic implications, the future of the country would be at stake.
