The winner of the 2023 edition of TV3 Ghana’s Strongest, Godfred Akolbila, has called on youth in the country to be inspired by his story and never give up on their dreams, regardless of the circumstances.
Recounting his troubling journey to Ibrahim Aziz on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show, he indicated that he owes his sponsor, who opted to help him with foodstuff needed to keep him healthy and fit to enable him to compete for over GH¢15,000.
The strongest man said despite the fact that he had no money and had consistently disappointed people since 2015 for not winning the ultimate award, the man still decided to help him.
This, he recalled, gives him the sense that there are good people, and this food supplier of his is one of them.
“My story to this day is shocking, so much so that it got to a point where I got laid off from my job, and the people around me were also now dried up because they had already spent so much on me,” he stated.
“I had to sit down with the man who sells the food supplements to me to negotiate with him because you can’t get the needed strength to do this work without eating the required nutrients, so I told him that I am sure of winning this year, but you help me so that when I win and whatever comes out of it, it belongs to you,” he added.
Mr. Akolbila said all he desired was to hold the title of strongest man in Ghana, having worked for it for many years.
“I did not win the title just for myself, my trainer, or the money involved, but I did this for all the people I represent and thus the Upper East Region because it has been to other places and I thought it was time we brought it here.”
The strongest man said that despite these uncertainties, determination is what has defied the odds, and he is now the holder of the title.
Mr. Akolbila’s remarkable journey to victory was marked by his exceptional performance in a series of staggering challenges, including the Truck Pull, Jumbo Deadlift, Superset Bench Press, Giant Tyre Flip, and Aboboyaa Deadlift.
