The Bolgatanga Traditional Council has called on stakeholders concerned in the Bolgatanga chieftaincy dispute to expedite the legal processes in resolving the chieftaincy dispute in the municipality as soon as possible.

On Sunday April 3 2016, a renewed chieftaincy clash erupted at a funeral in Bukere in the Bolgatanga municipality leaving some people injured and one dead.

Speaking at a press conference Saturday, acting president of the Bolgatanga Traditional Council, Naba Awuni A. Johnson said expediting the legal process in the matter will enable a resolution of the brewing acrimony.

He said though the legal process needs to be followed critically and systematically as the wheels of justice is known to grind slowly, they call on all stakeholders involved in finding a solution to the dispute to hasten the processes for a resolution of the dispute.

While thanking the security services for their swift response to the clash, which if not for their timely intervention could have led to more bloodshed, loss of lives and destruction of property, Naba Awuni urged the security services to remain vigilant and deal ruthlessly with any person or group of persons who take the law into their own hands.

“We are ready to assist all agencies involved in resolving the matter to expedite action and find a lasting solution to this matter,” he added.

The council also extended its condolences to victims of the clashes and their families wishing them speedy recovery while urging all parties in the dispute to exercise restraint as the matter is before the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs.

“It is extremely important that all parties to the dispute respect the Rule of Law and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. We therefore appeal for calm from all parties and that all parties should respect the law.” he stressed.
