The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) led by honorable James Klutse Avedzi, has called for the immediate arrest of the Northern Regional Director and the Chief Accountant of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
According to the 2022 Auditor General’s report, the aforementioned dignitaries failed to deposit over an amount of GH¢160,000 in Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
The Auditor General said the money was spent and that is a breach of the Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019.
Speaking at the Committee hearing, the Chairman of the Committee, James Klutse Avedzi, was displeased over the inability of the Director to appear before the committee.
He therefore directed the Minister for Youth and Sports to ensure that the Director, Madam Salamatu, and the Accountant get arrested by the Ghana Police Service.
“We are instructing the police to pick up the regional director and accountant of the region without delay,” he added. You were invited to testify before Parliament and you declined, despite being aware that you had misused over GH¢160,000, presuming that you would escape consequences.”
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, also assured the Committee that the directive will be carried out.
