The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga Central constituency of the Upper East Region, in a bid to secure victory in the upcoming elections, has inaugurated a 78-member committee with the sole aim of ousting the incumbent Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, and ensuring that the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is elected president.

The incumbent MP, Mr. Adongo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is seeking his third term in office, is facing stiff competition from the NPP parliamentary candidate, Atiah Figo Awonekai. Mr. Awonekai, who is chairing the committee, said the committee comprises individuals from diverse backgrounds, bringing together a wealth of experience, skills, and resources to support the NPP’s electoral efforts.

With a voter population of over 76,000 in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Mr. Atiah said about 47,000 are younger people. “I strongly believe that I resonate with the youth more than the incumbent senior man,” he said.

The NPP parliamentary candidate, Atiah Figo Awonekai, who said his track record will make him win the election, expressed confidence in defeating Mr. Adongo.

“In this campaign, I am not going after anybody. I am going to tell the voters what I have done and what I will do if I am elected. With the responses I get from the youth, key stakeholders, and the constituents, I am very confident that I will unseat Isaac Adongo this year,” he declared.

Mr. Atiah, who is the NPP’s Upper East Regional Secretary, mentioned that the constituents of Bolgatanga are disappointed in the performance of the MP, who had made several promises but failed to fulfill them.

“He promised a community in Sherigu that he would connect it to the national grid if elected, but after two terms, he now tells the community members that his role as an MP is to make laws. In the same way, he created an office with the promise to give women loans. Ever since he became MP, that office has been closed.”

Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Rex Asanga, emphasized the importance of unity, dedication, and strategic planning in their quest to unseat Mr. Adongo and secure victory for the NPP in the 2024 general elections.
