The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Pusiga Constituency in the Upper East Region has strongly refuted allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the ongoing limited voter registration exercise and the issuance of Ghana Cards. The NDC recently accused the NPP of orchestrating this act, alleging that it aimed to secure voter cards for these individuals to vote for the NPP in upcoming elections.
The NDC, in its press conference held on Wednesday, specifically accused Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the Chief Executive Officer of the Buffer Stock Company and NPP parliamentary candidate for Pusiga, of masterminding the alleged scheme of busing foreigners to register for the Ghana Card in the constituency. However, in a swift response, the NPP’s communication directorate in the Pusiga constituency, during a press conference held on Friday at Pulmakon, dismissed these claims, describing them as “baseless and unfounded” propaganda by the Member of Parliament, Hajia Lardi Ayii Ayamba, and the NDC.
“The allegations that non-Ghanaians were brought into the country to register are never true, and those the NDC claims are foreigners are indigenes of Widana and Pulmakon, who are engaged in businesses in our neighboring Togo and Burkina Faso,” stated Emmanuel Awinimi, the constituency Communications Officer of the NPP.
The NPP also denied the allegation by the NDC that the Buffer Stock CEO is luring non-resident students from the Gbewaa College of Education with cash incentives to transfer their votes to Pusiga to enable them to vote for him in the December polls.
“The existing laws allow people who have stayed in a particular place for some time to transfer their votes. Nonetheless, the NDC should hold their guns until the transfer process is activated, so they can visit the C.I. that gives us clear guidelines as to who is qualified to transfer their vote or not,” said Sumaila Jafaru, Special Aid to Mr. Aludiba.
