The Member of Parliament for the Nabdam Constituency in the Upper East Region, Dr. Mark-Kurt Nawaane, has donated teaching and learning materials worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to over 700 students preparing for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to the MP, the initiative aims to address the challenges faced by certain students, especially those who struggle to access materials such as mathematical sets.

Therefore, the initiative, which includes 800 mathematical sets and 800 exercise books, will become an annual tradition aimed at alleviating educational challenges among students in the area.

Addressing the students, Dr. Nawaane emphasized the importance of education and urged them to dedicate themselves to their studies. “You are the future leaders of this country,” he said. “Take your studies seriously, and I promise to always be here to support your educational needs.”

Some of the students who spoke to our reporter, Moses Apiah, expressed their relief and appreciation, highlighting the financial difficulties their families face in acquiring some of the materials.

One student shared her experience: “I told my parents about the importance of having a mathematical set for the exams, but they said they didn’t have the money. They asked me to pray so that before the exam day came, they would get money to buy it for me. I’m so happy the Honourable has helped me with one.”

Madam Mary-Magdalene Wompakeah, the Nabdam District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES), also expressed her appreciation for the MP’s support.

She, therefore, called on parents to collaborate with teachers to ensure the betterment of their children’s education. “While we appreciate the MP’s efforts, it is crucial for parents to also play their part in supporting their children’s educational journey,” she stated.

Dr. Nawaane, however, encouraged the students, saying the support is expected to have a positive impact on their performance and future prospects.
