The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, Thomas Duanab, has addressed critics, urging them to temper their expectations and avoid hasty generalizations regarding a recent book donation by Cardinal Namdini, a mining company operating in the area.
The donation was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts but has drawn both praise and criticism from local residents.
Speaking during an interview on A1 Radio, the DCE explained the importance of recognizing and appreciating the diverse needs and benefits of community support programs.
“Let us always get measured by our expectations. Of course, books are nothing for others, but for the very privileged, these books were given and will go a long way to help them and their parents.”
He emphasized the positive impact of the donation, highlighting the benefits it would bring to local students and their families.
“I am happy that the mining company gave us the books, and in the future, I will ask for more. What is good for you may not be good for another person.”
He also reminded critics of the broader context, noting that Cardinal Namdini’s corporate social responsibility initiatives are still in their early stages.
“The company hasn’t started wholesomely yet but saw the need to support these students with the books. If the company were to donate such books to Bolgatanga Municipality, wouldn’t they be happy?”
