The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has elected Stephen Abelimah Akugre, the Assembly Member for the Kumblingo/Bolingo Electoral Area, as the Presiding Member.
After the tenure of the former Presiding Member, Rawfield Nyaaba Abileo, the Assembly failed severally to elect a Presiding Member, and that Assembly was later dissolved without one.
Since the inception of the new Assembly late last year, it also failed numerous times to elect a Presiding Member.
However, for the betterment of the Bolgatanga Municipality, the Assembly today, June 13, 2024, came to an agreement on the need to elect their Presiding Member.
Out of a total of 41 Assembly Members, with 40 having voting rights, Mr. Akugre, who was the only member nominated, polled 32 yes votes, while two voted no, and 6 members were absent.
The Kumblingo/Bolingo Assemblyman expressed excitement and readiness to work and move the Assembly forward. “I am happy about the outcome today. And I am available and ready to work for the development of the Bolgatanga Municipality,” he told A1 Radio’s David Azure.
The Assembly also constituted its sub-committees and elected their Conveners. Some of the Conveners include Lambert Akunzebe, Assembly Member for the Soe Central Electoral Area (Justice and Security Sub-committee), Emmanuel Ayamga, Tindonmoligo Assemblyman (Development and Planning Sub-committee), Aaron Abongo, Atulbabisi Assemblyman (Works Sub-committee), and Richmond Atugera, Dorongo Assemblyman (Social Services Sub-committee), among others.
Rex Asanga, the Municipal Chief Executive, speaking to A1 Radio about the much-awaited election of the Presiding Member, expressed his deepest excitement about the current Assembly’s move to be able to elect a Presiding Member. Mr. Asanga said the assembly is now in a good position to ensure the needed development.
