SIC Life Savings and Loans Gives Back To Society

SIC Life Savings and Loans as part of its corporate social responsibilities has donated 150 dual desks to Boya-Kparisaka primary school in the Bawku West district to improve teaching and learning there.

Hitherto, students of the school ranging from lower primary level to the junior high school sat on bare floor while others hanged on broken windows of a dilapidated classroom block of the school to study.

JHS 1 students of the school are currently housed in a mud and sandy floor structure. The kindergarten pupils study under a sheanut tree at the mercy of the weather. The few ‘lucky’ ones have with them old and tattered mats provided by their wards which they sit on during class hours.

With no dual desks then to sit on during class hours, the students have to pack their books in corners of the stench classrooms which have been taken over by bats or they choose to keep their books on the broken windows while tuition is ongoing.

JHS 1 student of the school Anoba Rahma recounted his ordeal to a1radioonline.com

“We sit on the mats and the mats are not enough so we sit on the floor and our uniforms become dirty. There are no marker boards; the classroom becomes warm in the afternoons.”

Another JHS student Simido William cried out that “we contributed money to roof the building that was ripped off by wind. When it is raining we have no place to go, we sit in here and the rain beats us.”

At a short ceremony to hand over the dual desks to help resolve the predicament faced by the students, Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans Richard Appietu said the main objective of the organization is to mobilize and give loans to the society. However contributing to the society in which the organization operates is a responsibility of the organization. He stated that the donation forms part of the organization’s commitment to communities.

SIC Life Savings and Loans on the occasion also donated 5,700 exercise books to some selected schools in the Bawku West, Nabdam and Talensi Districts respectively in the Upper East Region. The beneficiary schools include Boya primary in the Bawku West, Kongo primary in Nabdam and Saint Thomas Aquinas primary in the Talensi district.

While calling on other corporate entities to emulate same Mr.  Appietu pledged to continue the support of providing basic educational and health needs to other vulnerable communities in the country.

“Every year we set aside some money to help especially in the area of health and education and that’s where as a corporate body we have taken to help the society.”

The managing director entreated the beneficiary school to use the dual desks and the books for what they are meant for.

Government officials who graced the occasion thanked SIC Life Savings and Loans for the support and entreated other organizations to benevolently emulate the gesture of SIC Life Savings and Loans in order to complement government’s efforts at bettering the lives of the citizenry.
