The former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Constituency, Inusah Fuseini, has described the yet-to-be read mid-year budget as “empty and hollow” with no tangible benefits for Ghanaians.
He argued that the budget will primarily focus on the upcoming December 7th elections, aimed at promoting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) slogan of “breaking the 8,” rather than addressing the pressing economic issues faced by the country.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Fuseini described the current Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, as an “injury time Finance Minister,” taking over from a previous administration that left the economy in a dire state.
“Inflation is increasing, unemployment rates are high, and the overall economic situation is crippling,” Fuseini remarked.
He further urged Ghanaians not to place their hopes on the mid-year budget, predicting it would be filled with “economic gymnastics and jargon” without offering any new solutions to the nation’s problems.
The mid-year budget presentation is intended to update the House on the implementation of the government’s 2024 Budget, providing revised financial plans and an updated economic outlook for Ghana.
However, the legislator remained skeptical, suggesting that the budget would merely serve as a political tool rather than a means to alleviate the economic challenges faced by ordinary Ghanaians.
He noted that the current economic indicators paint a bleak picture. With inflation rates soaring and unemployment remaining high, he questioned the government’s ability to deliver a budget that would positively impact the lives of citizens.
He also criticized the NPP’s focus on electoral success, arguing that the party’s priorities are misaligned with the urgent needs of the populace.
