Gov’t must resolve CETAG issues – NDC

Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), conveyed mixed sentiments about the ongoing CETAG strike.

While initially expressing satisfaction that the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) had taken the decision to withdraw their services due to unmet expectations from their employer, the government, Mr. Abdallah Salifu, lamented the current state of affairs, stating a desire for teachers to remain in classrooms to support students.

Mr. Salifu also commented on Ghana’s financial situation, asserting his belief that the country is not financially destitute despite claims to the contrary.

He criticized what he described as the misuse of public funds and suggested that governmental decisions, particularly by President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, dictate financial allocations, implying questionable disbursements.

“If anybody tells you that Ghana is broke, sometimes I stand to differ because when I see some of the misuse of our own money, it becomes a bit worrying so nobody wants to believe that the government is broke. There’s money. Probably President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia determine what to use the money for, who to pay and who not to pay. And some of the payments are even very dubious.”

He urged the government to promptly address their grievances, emphasizing the importance of resolving the issues to benefit all stakeholders involved. He highlighted previous assurances made by authorities that have yet to be fulfilled, underscoring ongoing dissatisfaction within the educational sector.

“Government should do its best to solve their issues for them. It will help everyone,” he stated.

“What has been said about a year back has still not been fulfilled,” he noted.
