Atiah Figo Awonekai, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central, has claimed that the incumbent Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, experiences significant anxiety at the mention of his name.
According to Mr. Atiah, when he began his campaign in January by meeting with opinion leaders and chiefs in the constituency, Mr. Adongo was in Accra, seemingly confident of his re-election. “While I was on the ground, engaging with the people and addressing their concerns, Mr. Adongo was comfortably relaxing in Accra, assuming his victory was assured,” Mr. Atiah stated.
Mr. Atiah, who frequently refers to Mr. Adongo as “Senior Man,” claimed that his presence and campaign efforts have unsettled the incumbent MP. “I assured the constituency executives that Mr. Adongo would soon feel the pressure and return to the constituency. True to my words, he is now constantly shuttling between Accra and Bolgatanga. He gets severe anxiety at the mention of my name,” he said.
The NPP parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central was addressing charged party supporters at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga when the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, wrapped up his constituency-focused campaign in the North.
Atiah Figo Awonekai expressed confidence that his campaign has put Mr. Adongo on the defensive. “Mr. Adongo is now running helter-skelter because of the pressure I am applying. By October or November, Isaac Adongo will flee Bolgatanga Central. I promise the NPP that this time, the Bolga seat will fall to the NPP,” Mr. Atiah declared.
Mr. Atiah emphasized his strong connection with the constituents and his efforts to bring developmental projects to the area. Among the projects he highlighted were the construction of the 30-kilometer Bolga-Sherigu-Naaga road, the Soe-Zaare road, the Zumbrungu-Zorkor road, and the establishment of a Bolgatanga Mechanical Enclave, among others.
