The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Binduri District, Ayinga Abagre Yakubu, has expressed surprise and skepticism over the recent actions of Issifu Mahmoud, the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the DCE, Mr. Mahmoud has shown a newfound interest in the welfare of the Binduri people only after winning his party’s parliamentary primaries, which Mr. Yakubu finds disingenuous.
Speaking during the NPP’s Presidential Candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Constituency Connect Tour, Mr. Yakubu questioned Mr. Mahmoud’s sudden engagement with the community.
“It is surprising to see him [Mahmoud] now expressing liking for the constituents and the area after years of neglect. After winning the parliamentary primaries, he then realized to transfer his vote to the area,” Mr. Yakubu remarked.
Mr. Yakubu criticized Mr. Mahmoud for what he perceived as opportunistic behavior.
“All that I have been saying is that if you want to be a patriotic citizen and expect the same from the people, you don’t wait till the time that you need something from the people before you begin to draw closer to them. When he was not having the intention to contest the seat, he never bothered to come home or perhaps recognize the people of Binduri. But now that he needs our votes, he is promising heaven and earth,” Mr. Yakubu stated.
He added that Mr. Mahmoud is not someone the people of Binduri should give their mandate to lead them.
However, the DCE praised the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdulai Abanga, highlighting his consistent dedication to the community.
“Even when Hon. Abanga Abdulai was living his private life, he usually made sure the welfare of Binduri came first. He ensured that potable water, women’s welfare, and students’ issues were part of his agenda,” Mr. Yakubu said.
Mr. Yakubu emphasized Abanga’s accomplishments in addressing critical issues in the constituency, including access to potable water, healthcare, education, and support for women’s groups and agricultural initiatives.
He lauded Mr. Abanga’s efforts, saying, “Many communities in the area have no issues with potable water because Hon. Abanga has addressed water issues drastically in the constituency.”
The DCE called on the people of Binduri, including its sons, daughters, and opinion leaders, to honor and vote for Abanga in the upcoming elections.
He argued that Mr. Abanga’s commitment and dedication to the development of Binduri should be recognized and supported.
“I pray and hope the decent people of Binduri honor Hon. Abanga for his commitment and dedication to the development of Binduri. I’m calling on the people of Binduri to vote for him as their Member of Parliament come December 7th Elections. He will bring more and bigger development to the constituency,” Mr. Yakubu said.
