The NPP parliamentary candidate for the Zebila Constituency, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, has called for a shift in the traditional role of members of parliament, emphasizing the need for practical solutions to community development.

According to Dr. Krugu, the classical definition of a member of parliament (MP) as merely a lawmaker is outdated and insufficient in addressing the needs of underdeveloped communities.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Krugu highlighted the importance of MPs taking an active role in job creation.

“The whole concept of a member of parliament is drawn from common law, and we need to go beyond that. Being a member of parliament is not just about being a lawmaker who goes to parliament to argue. The reason is twofold: first, because of our underdevelopment, a member of parliament must also be responsible for job creation.”

Dr. Krugu criticized the current approach to job creation by MPs, describing it as inadequate.

“It is not enough to say that when the police are recruiting and they have given each MP two slots, and you take those two slots and return to your constituency to say you’ve created jobs. That is a drop in the ocean compared to the number of young people coming out of universities these days.”

He outlined his vision for a more proactive role for MPs in community development.

“If you are seeking to be a member of parliament, you must look beyond the common law definition of the role. You must be able to offer practical, bold solutions that will create jobs for the people who elect you to represent them,” Dr. Krugu explained.

Krugu emphasized that, if elected as MP for Zebila, he would implement bold and practical solutions to address unemployment.

He pledged to introduce four to five major initiatives that would create thousands of jobs for the youth in and out of the constituency.

“When elected as MP for Zebila, I will introduce four to five bold initiatives that will create thousands of jobs for the youth within and beyond the constituency,” he assured.
