Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in the Chiana-Paga constituency of the Upper East Region have locked up the District Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) office, protesting what they allege is the unfair distribution of fertilizer under the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) 2.0 initiative.
The youth, led by NPP Constituency Youth Organiser Kassim Mubashir Mandela, claim that only members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are benefiting from the fertilizer distribution, despite the initiative being a government program meant for all farmers.
This perceived bias has sparked outrage among the NPP youth, who argue that the ruling party’s supporters are being unfairly excluded at a critical time in the political campaign season.
Speaking to our reporter, Mr. Mandela expressed his frustration, stating, “It is a party that forms a government, and at this crucial moment, how can a government initiative not benefit its own people? Those who are benefiting are NDC members, and they are claiming the fertilizer comes from the NDC’s parliamentary candidate or from the brother of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama. We have no choice but to lock the office until transparency prevails.”
The youth have vowed to keep the office closed until they receive assurances from their national executives that the situation will be rectified.
Mr. Mandela emphasized that they will not allow the office to resume operations until their concerns are addressed, insisting that NPP farmers deserve equal access to the PFJ 2.0 fertilizer.
However, authorities from the district and regional level of MoFA are yet to respond to the issue.

We are indeed In interesting times, I live on a 4 plots of land where only half plot is used for our 3 bedroom house, the rest of the plots on the same piece of land is used for dry season gardening at Paga- Nyania. As former Assembly member for Paga central, as former contituency secretary of NPP, as an immediate past constituency communication director, I’m not aware of a program like this, my household was not captured in the registration. The NPP in Kassena/ Nankana West needs better treatment than this. The big question is, when was this registration done? And who did it?
