The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, has emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration among health workers in the Upper East region.

Dr. Aboagye made this call during this year’s Upper East Regional Health Directorate mid-year review held in Bolgatanga.

Dr. Aboagye stressed that building a strong network and establishing good working relationships among health workers are crucial to ensuring the seamless delivery of health services. He noted that a collaborative approach would help bridge any gaps in healthcare provision, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.

The Director-General’s appeal comes as the region’s health sector continues to face challenges, including workforce shortages and limited resources. By promoting a culture of teamwork and mutual support, health workers can better address these challenges and improve overall healthcare outcomes.

“Why can’t we provide a platform where health workers, regardless of their location, can engage in continuous learning and capacity building through regular interaction? A midwife in a rural clinic can learn and advance certain techniques from her colleagues in a more equipped hospital. Sharing knowledge can help mitigate the shortage of skilled personnel by enhancing the capabilities of the existing staff.”

The mid-year review provided a platform for health workers to assess progress, share best practices, and identify areas for improvement. Dr. Aboagye’s call to action is expected to resonate with health professionals across the region, inspiring a renewed commitment to collaboration and excellence in healthcare delivery.

Dr. Samuel K. Boakye-Boateng, the Upper East Regional Director of Health, while highlighting some of the progress and setbacks the directorate encountered in the year under review, stated that indications show the directorate is making good headway. However, he quickly added that more needs to be done by all stakeholders.

The 2024 half-year regional performance review, which was under the theme “Using NoP to Drive Universal Access to Quality Maternal Health Care in the Upper East Region,” saw the regional minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, acknowledge the challenges of the health sector. Dr. Bin Salih noted that the government is fully committed to ensuring quality and accessible healthcare in the region.
