The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has called on media practitioners in the Upper East Region to be fair and professional in their duties ahead of the general and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024.

Dr. Bin Salih made these comments when he spoke at the 3rd Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.

“As we approach the 2024 general elections, your role in ensuring peaceful elections is more crucial than ever. We have been there before, but every election comes with its own peculiarities. It behooves you to understand the excitement and circumstances of this election, the high stakes involved, and our orientation towards peace and tranquility.”

“As managers and moderators of your media houses, you must encourage the use of decent language during political programs, free from hate speech and inflammatory words that could escalate our precarious security situation.”

The Regional Minister continued, “As we celebrate 75 years of the GJA, you must renew your commitment to ethical journalism and democratic governance by upholding the values of accountability, fairness, and transparency. Peaceful elections depend on a multiplicity of factors and bodies, which we must consciously work to support.”

He commended the GJA for its work over the past 75 years.

“I commend the GJA for its steadfast dedication. You have been a pillar of strength in our democratic journey. As we look to the future, let us remain vigilant, courageous, and unwavering in our pursuit of ensuring peaceful elections, which have become the lifeblood of our democracy.”
